What is Reflexology

Reflexology is a safe, gentle and effective natural therapy that can bring

balance to the body and mind

Reflexology uses specialist compression techniques applied to reflex points on the feet, hands and face and reflexologists believe that the points connect to organs, glands and structures of the body. Through sensitive analysis, a reflexologist can help to restore balance, relieve tension, aid relaxation, and promote overall wellbeing.

The relationship between the reflex points and the internal organs of the body dates back thousands of years and first references to reflexology were made around 2,500 BC in the the tomb of the physician Ankmahor in Egypt. Ancient scripts evidenced that the Egyptians understood the body as an integrated system and the principle that the feet mapped into the body.

The scientific basis to Reflexology continued to evolve in the 19th Century when Dr William Fitzgerald and later Eunice Ingham, known as the Mother of Reflexology,  started to consider the possibility of treating the body through pressure points through 'zones' in the feet. Ingham separated the work on reflexes on the feet from Zone Therapy and established the use of  alternating pressure techniques on reflex points that many Reflexologists' use today. By working with this technique  using the thumbs, knuckles and fingers a reflexologist can stimulate the body’s ability to promote natural healing and encourages the natural structure to achieve balance known as homeostasis.
